Description of Organization

Tkà:nios will create access to local food, meaningful peer training and employment opportunities, and help restore the connection between culture and territory by offering life skills, self-sufficiency, and responsibility to others through food on Kahnawake.  

Responsibilities and deliverables

The intern will be working directly with the project coordinator. The priorities of the role are to create Tkà:nios’ web page and to build a social media presence so that the project’s impacts are documented and showcased. Depending on the needs of the project, the student might at times need to help with the project’s gardening tasks.

 

Assets and Requirements  

  • Student must be registered as a Concordia student
  • A creative eye
  • Multimedia skills such as (we will tailor the role to student’s strengths and interests):
    • Video production and editing skills
    • Event photography and editing skills
    • Profeiency in Canva (or other graphic design skills)
    • Writing and storytelling
  • Open-mindedness and awareness of Indigenous realities and histories
  • Interest in land work, sustainability, and/or ecological work

Duration: Winter Semester (12 weeks between January – April 2024, exact dates to be determined between the Host Organisation and student)

Site of employment: Hybrid

Address (if applicable): Mostly remote, with some in person workshops or small gatherings in Kahnawake,  

*All SHIFT interns are welcome to co-work at SHIFT’s space (LB-145) throughout the work week. 

Hours: 180 hours total (roughly 15 hours a week)

Remuneration: $3000

Please note that SHIFT payments are made as honorariums, sent in 2 installments at mid-semester and the end of the semester.
