Description of Organization

The Amal Center for Women is an open, inclusive, and welcoming centre that collaborates with women and families in difficulty to improve their living conditions, develop their independence, and heal their wounds. 

The Center offers psychosocial services that respond to the needs of women and families, while also conducting community outreach to raise awareness on the issues of domestic abuse, conjugal violence, and mental health in ethnocultural communities. The Amal Center accepts cases related to conjugal violence, marital conflict, divorce, parent-child conflict, parent-adolescent conflict, youth protection, depression, mental health, immigration, integration, orientation, and more.

Responsibilities and deliverables

With the support of a staff member: 

  • Create and share materials for fundraising campaigns, events, and public relations initiatives.
  • Help manage consistent and on-brand social media presence on Instagram and Facebook by creating original content to reflect the center’s activities, sourcing and sharing relevant news and special interest items, etc.
  • Ensure “brand identity” for Amal Center is met across all platforms, including approved colors, fonts, design, and wording
  • Collaborate on new initiatives and ideas for social media
  • Update Calendar of important dates for Women’s Center to coordinate campaigns
  • Assist the Communications leader in developing a vision and implementation of engaging and dynamic communications strategies, building awareness, and disseminating information about the Amal Center to external stakeholders.
  • Build strong, collaborative working relationships with the Amal Center’s board, center coordinator and admin team.

 

Assets and Requirements  

  • Student must be registered as a Concordia student
  • Proficient knowledge of Social Media and Communications 
  • Knowledge of IT tools related to the job (CANVA, FB, Instagram Reels, Etc)
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Superior written and spoken communication skills
  • Bilingual Fr/En an asset
  • Knowledge of Square Space is an asset
  • Capacity to work independently
  • Works well in a team, take direction, and seek guidance/ask questions 

Duration: Summer Semester (12 weeks between May – August 2024, exact dates to be discussed between the Host Organisation and student)

Site of employment: Hybrid

*All SHIFT interns are also welcome to come co-work at SHIFT’s space (LB-145) throughout the work week. 

Hours: 120 hours total (roughly 10 hours a week)

Remuneration: $2000

Please note that SHIFT payments are made as honorariums, sent in 2 installments at mid-semester and the end of the semester.
