The Press Start Youth Co-op’s mission is to provide youth from Pointe-Saint-Charles and surrounding neighbourhoods a space to build community and to grow as individuals, a space where youth can develop a variety of useful skills and can work together to make changes in their communities. Press Start Employment Initiative (PSEI) is the second phase of Press Start, both of which are responses to a community-facilitated consultation process in Pointe St.Charles. The consultation highlighted common themes experienced in the neighbourhood, such as the need for communal spaces, lack of employment opportunities, racial profiling, a desire for more environmentally friendly resources, and many other issues centering around a need for social change and youth led opportunities. Phase one sought to foster a communal space led by and for youth, phase two looks to address the lack of employment opportunities, specifically for marginalized youth aged 16-24.
