Description of Organization

Gathering Vision provides advocates with the direction needed to support and resource the Indigenous Street Community’s capacity for self-advocacy and act as co-partners in increasing community empowerment. The Indigenous Street Community has very little connections with other communities of colour. We are looking specifically to build the foundation of our network of connections with communities working against police brutality and racialized profiling.

Responsibilities and deliverables

The Outreach & Community Builder will find and connect with both anglophone and francophone communities of color and individual POC who are and have been working on issues critical of policing, police brutality, and racialized profiling. The intern will continue adding to our contact list which perhaps may support us in organizing a meet and greet either online or in person.

Assets and Requirements

Student must be registered as a Concordia student
Multi-lingual (english/french basic)
Self organized
Aware of Indigenous realities
Socialable

Duration: Winter Semester (12 weeks between January – April 2024, exact dates to be determined between the Host Organisation and student)

Site of employment: Various locations and hybrid, including the Plateau, Concordia, phone, email, and video conference.

*All SHIFT interns are also welcome to come co-work at SHIFT’s space (LB-145) throughout the work week.

Hours: 120 hours total (roughly 10 hours a week)

Remuneration: $2000

Please note that SHIFT payments are made as honorariums, sent in 2 installments at mid-semester and the end of the semester.

This is an informal site for BA and Diploma students in the Department of Communication Studies to seek out paid and unpaid internships for credit, and for organizations to post internship opportunities. NB Internships are not required in order to complete your BA or Diploma degrees.

To BA and Diploma students in the Department of Communication Studies: If you are considering a Summer internship, please know that under these exceptional circumstances you may work partly, or entirely, from home. This assumes, of course, that your onsite supervisor fully supports this arrangement. If you still have concerns or questions after you’ve read the Guidelines, please contact the Internships Co-ordinator.

Sept 2016: Please note that, in order to maximize the value of the internships for everyone, we support a maximum of TWO student interns at any one company during any given semester.
