the department of Communication Studies at Concordia University recommends the following guidelines for student internships:
ORIENTATION
At the beginning of the internship, the intern will be introduced to the receiving organization, including an introduction to the staff, organization procedures and culture, health and safety standards, internship responsibilities, mentorship arrangement, and labor rights.
CONTENT
The receiving organization will ensure that the internship is a learning experience that will help the intern gain knowledge and skills relevant to their subject area that will help them orient themselves professionally. The tasks given will be relevant to the expected learning outcomes specified and appropriate to the intern’s capacity and working hours.The intern will be able to negotiate the tasks.
MENTORSHIP
The supervisor will provide guidance throughout the internship. The intern will be able to ask questions around their rights and responsibilities and willreceive feedback on their work.
EVALUATION
Meetings will be held with the intern in the middle and at the end of the internship to evaluate the internship content according to the expected learning outcomes and to discuss the possibility of employment.
COMPENSATION
The receiving organization will provide travel and lunch expenses when a wage is not given.
